CBI Economic Forecast
A somewhat weaker outlook for global activity means that export growth is expected to be lower than previously forecast, with weak rates of activity in the euro area acting as a particular drag. Nevertheless, demand from emerging markets should provide some
support, given the UK's success in re-orienting exports to faster growing economies over recent years.... Read Full Article
Bank of England offers glum outlook for 2013
LONDON (Reuters) - The economy is likely to remain stagnant in the near term but inflation will probably exceed 2 percent in the next year and also faces further risks from higher food prices, Bank of England policy makers said on Wednesday (Dec 19, 2012).
After its December 5-6 meeting, the BoE's Monetary Policy Committee decided to keep its main interest rate at a record-low 0.5 percent and its bond purchases at 375 billion pounds as expected, with stubborn inflation trumping worries about a sluggish economy.... Read Full Article

Welcome to the January 2013 newsletter from PSS-Europe.
Those of you who have received a PSS-Europe newsletter in the past will have noted there has been somewhat of interval since the last issue. 2012, full of learning experiences, opportunities that should have been but weren't great, should have been but didn't materialise and should have been and turned out to be not too bad. The plan for 2013 is to make a more concerted effort to turn those opportunities that should be into new business.
Some of the lessons of 2012:
Very, very few companies actually implement “Agile”, most implement iterative waterfall
When companies are bidding for a project always ask the question “How many permanent employees will be allocated to the work?”
In order for pragmatism to work there has to be a common understanding within the team, if there is one person in a position of influence with a different agenda then spend the time dotting i's and crossing t's.
2013 is starting on a bright outlook with work about to start with a client that PSS-Europe has been speaking with for quite a while now. An interesting opportunity as it will be re-engineering business processes and deploying a new business application. A potentially bigger opportunity could come about from facilitating the partnering of two companies; if this works out there will be an opportunity for PSS-Europe to expand to support project delivery via the partnership.
Time needs to be spent building the business and the plan is to have a more disciplined CRM approach, putting the time into staying in touch and doing more follow up work. The recruitment model is sound as placements are being made on the submission of very few CV's; PSS-Europe needs to be providing this service to more customers. The consultancy opportunities are expected to be supporting larger companies as Preferred Supplier Lists are still the bane of many small companies.
Despite the outlook on a national level overall PSS-Europe is going into 2013 with a very positive outlook and if you are looking for a new opportunity in the coming year please send us your CV to firstname.lastname@example.org.
|Why you need a Project Management Office
Companies seeking more efficiency and tighter monitoring of IT projects are opening project management offices (PMO) in growing numbers.
For years, IT departments have struggled to deliver projects on time and within budget. But with today's emphasis on getting more bang for the buck, IT has to rein in projects more closely than ever. That challenge has led many to turn to project management offices (PMOs) as a way to boost IT efficiency, cut costs, and improve on project delivery in terms of time and budget.
While not a new solution, the trend toward implementing PMOs to instill much-needed project management discipline in IT departments is spreading fast. "More people lately have been talking to me about PMOs than they have in the last 10 years," says Don Christian, a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers. PMOs can help CIOs by providing the structure needed to both standardize project management practices and facilitate IT project portfolio management, as well as determine methodologies for repeatable processes....
