Emergency budget 22nd June
The Treasury has confirmed that newly appointed chancellor George Osborne will present his emergency Budget on Tuesday 22 June, six weeks after taking power.
Moving quickly, Osborne said the OBR would be an independent entity like the Monetary Policy Committee that would be responsible for developing "a truly independent assessment of the state of the nation's finances". The OBR will be set up initially on a non-statutory basis and be headed by economist Sir Alan Budd. Along with Geoffrey Dicks and Graham Parker he will form a Budget Responsibility Committee and get to work on the forecasts immediately.

Economic recovery 'fragile'
The UK's economic recovery, although in progress, is fragile and could be put at risk by the eurozone debt crisis and turmoil in the financial markets, the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) has warned.
In its latest economic forecast, the BCC said that it has raised its prediction of UK growth to 1.3 per cent for 2010 but has revised down its expectations for next year because of medium-term problems.

Summer appears to have arrived and plants are growing quickly in the garden, hopefully the economy will start growing as well. One sign of recovery is that PSS-Europe is getting more recruitment requests. This seems to be a mix of companies starting new projects and replacing staff that have left and found new positions.
One of the challenges of the recruitment requests at the moment is that a number of them are short notice and very specific requirements. When possible PSS-Europe associates are placed and if that is not possible then we go to our candidates' database. Another route to fulfilling requirements is the use of partners such as W3 Partnership (MQ specialists) and Zenzero (Oracle specialists).
As PSS-Europe starts to do more placements Luke and I are spending more time out visiting customers and speaking with potential candidates. PSS-Europe has now reached the point where a professional recruitment website is required. To that end I have engaged Tony Parsons to build a new website that will be at www.pssrecruitment.com . |
