A better outlook for IT

The greatest boost for IT sales this year, according to Bartels, will be in software and computer equipment. Operating systems and applications will drive software growth, while storage gear, PCs and peripherals will drive hardware growth. Bartels predicts that the sectors most responsible for the growth are manufacturing, financial services, utilities and health care.

April has been an interesting month for business relationships, two main contacts have moved on and this has not quite put PSS back at square one with those companies but it has not helped. On the flip side people moving on are going somewhere new and this opens up new opportunities. On the up side new opportunities have come that offer serious potential if I can make it work and in turn I have passed on opportunities to others. Having completed an initial piece of work for a client PSS is now waiting on the decision for the larger piece of work. Initially the expectation was a decision in a fortnight but it has been well over a month now and looking less likely, the work could have been competed by now but you cannot force client to make what looks like an obvious decision.

I have moved from working in a outsourced environment to working in an internal company team, it is just so much better on so many levels. All the team is working towards the same objective for the same company; the team members have the detailed company knowledge and the relevant skills to do the job. One of the biggest benefits is that there is no formal segmentation of roles and the team members support each other to achieve the goal in the most efficient way possible. The experience just re-enforces my view that outsourcing in theory is a great idea (the one the accountants cost) but does not deliver the benefits as envisaged.
