Voice - the next killer app?

One thing that has hardly improved at all over the 25-year history of the mobile phone is the quality of voice calls. But now there's the possibility that we will soon see a radical improvement, one that make calls sound, in the words of one operator, "as if callers are actually in the same room". The technology that could provide that is called HD Voice. Read Full Article

Introduction

Welcome to another newsletter from PSS-Europe.

The New Year has started with a very active market and a lot of opportunities, including renewable energy engineers, MQ Websphere specialists and IT Fund Management project managers.

The telecom sector appears buoyant with opportunities opening up with a number of companies, interestingly mainly consultancies working for the big operators. For PSS-Europe it means an opportunity to consolidate current relationships as well as grow the business.

Meetings are scheduled in January with retail customers that will hopefully lead to project manager and business analyst opportunities becoming available. The outlook for retail does look difficult with no retail growth being predicted for 2010.

The aim is to continue building the business through the year. That said coming out of recession with growth at 0.1% that is going to be a challenge.

Google calls local services 'hugely important' to mobile future

Calling local services "hugely important" to the future of the mobile user experience, Google product SVP Jonathan Rosenberg said Thursday the digital services giant anticipates location-based services will more deeply integrate with mobile advertising and commerce services in the "not too distant future."

If Google says so, it must be right, right? Read Full Article

Comment of the Month

UK emerges from recession

Jan 26 2010

The UK economy grew by 0.1 per cent in the last quarter of 2009 officially ending the recession.

However, the GDP figures released by the Office for National Statistics were 0.3 per cent lower than widely anticipated.

Azad Zangana, european economist at investment bank Schroders, says: ‘Today's data indicates the start of an extremely fragile recovery, which has been highly reliant on support from fiscal and monetary policy. We estimate it will be at least three years before the UK returns to the level of output achieved in 2007.'

Absolute genius... can really see why bankers earn the big bucks.....
