Slowdown in the decline of the labour market
Since the start of the recession, there have been falls in the number of jobs, resulting in lower employment, increases in redundancies and increases in unemployment,
according an ONS article released today. However, the rate of decline of the labour market has slowed down in the third quarter of 2009. This is shown with the smallest
quarterly increase in unemployment rates since the start of the recession in the second quarter of 2008, the largest quarter-onquarter fall in the number of redundancies,
and only a marginal fall in vacancies on the previous quarter.

Welcome to another newsletter from PSS-Europe.
For me November has been all about getting a project into production, a really satisfying achievement as this was first
a project recovery and then delivery to a tight schedule. Having delivered the “must do” project the focus will now
switch to ensuring that the client gets value for money from the outsource companies. I am investigating supplying
contract project management resource to the outsource companies.
The job market appears to be picking up with opportunities both in the UK and continental Europe; I have spoken with
a number of potential clients and even have had the luxury of deciding which options to take up. As well as an
increase in the number of opportunities day rates are also strengthening.
Into the new year the plan for PSS-Europe is to develop a presentation that can be used in a bit to get work
directly with new clients. The pitch will be on implementing best practice and using a project management office to
maintain it and supplying project management staff.
