Welcome to another newsletter from PSS-Europe.
The optimistic view is that
it is possible demand for recruitment will begin to pick up from the middle to late 2009. With economy contracting 1.9% in the first three months (manufacturing 6.2% contraction in first 3 months!!) this does not seem very likely.
What to do in the mean time in order to benefit long term from the current situation?
A number of companies are up-skilling, looking at their contractor base and recruiting more senior and experienced staff without having to change the rate paid.
If the optimists are correct then companies need to consider the contractors they have in key positions that they have taken on at competitive rates and think about the duration of the next contract they offer.
As for the permanent job market, with employees holding onto the jobs they know and employers reluctant to commit to new long term appointments the combined effect is a very slow market.
With so many applications for each position the specification can be extremely specific ensuring that the candidates are an exact skills match for the role.
Now is a good time to recruit provided there is a need supported by a sound business case.
