| Technology Strategy Manager - Carbon Reduction |
Location: Loughborough Salary/Rate: To £67,500
To work as a member of the Strategy Development Team in designing and developing the client's research and technology strategy. The strategy will identify key technology opportunities, demonstrate routes and commercialisation options for energy technologies and, critically, will identify those areas where the client can deliver maximum value to catalyse commercial application of new low carbon energy technologies and systems.
Key role leading development of thinking, engaging with a diverse range of people, facilitating the development of a shared vision and purpose, getting buy in from senior government and industry decision makers. Organisation
Part of a small close knit team with different skills and experiences, who together deliver a long term plan to spend £1 billion towards achieving extremely challenging UK energy targets to the commercial advantage of the industrial members of the company.
Working with the rest of the team to build and shape a series of £20 million projects to deliver the strategy. Team members will also find themselves helping many of their contacts understand the big picture aspect's of the UK energy system and how this might develop into the future.
Principal Accountabilities
• Through personal authority build and build on existing relationships with influential thinkers and experts in their areas of responsibility.
• Simplifying the complexities of these areas of responsibility into a critical analysis of the key issues.
• Detailed understanding of the interaction between developing energy technologies, available natural resources and economics in the UK now and into the future.
• Develop a compelling vision of the developing role of innovative energy technology in the areas of responsibility.
• Translate the vision into series of programme focus areas and targets.
• Work with the wider team to build effective commercial and academic teams to deliver quality projects against these targets.
• Contribute to the development, knowledge base, communications material and presentation of the client's knowledge to key partners.
• Work effectively within the processes and of other government/ funding bodies to further.
Context
This is a key role in the Strategy Delivery Team with responsibility for ensuring the client's strategy is focused on delivering target outcomes of capability to enable a significant reduction of the UK's and global CO2 emissions by 2020 and ahead to 2050 together with enhancing the security and reliability of energy supplies.
Person Profile
The Technology Strategy Manager needs to be results orientated, entrepreneurial and self motivated with extensive analytical, organisational and presentation skills and with substantial customer facing experience in the energy sector. You will work closely with Corporate Services for financial, contract, legal and State Aid advice as necessary and will draw on the client's Strategy and Programme Managers for specialist inputs.
Qualifications:
• Degree in relevant science, engineering or related discipline.
• Current Professional Qualification in Engineering or Technology which has actively been used in the last 10 years.
Experience:
• Diverse engineering background including the design and development of new technologies.
• Understands the ways business makes money from technology.
• Track record of working with colleagues to do the business planning / strategy development for technology.
• A demonstrated ability to learn about new areas of technology and their application and ideally, some knowledge and experience of energy related technologies.
Skills:
• Strong analytical and numerical skills.
• Strong ability to get people to buy into an proposition.
• Ability to get people to work together towards a common purpose.
• Projects personal authority as a technologist.
Competencies:
• Evidence to indicate a strong relationship builder with internal and external contacts.
Other Requirements:
• Willingness to travel, within the UK and globally as required.
Salary:
A base salary of circa £67,500 is envisaged for candidates. This depends on the skills and experience the successful candidate would bring to the role. The package will include the following:
