| Strategy Analyst (Energy Storage and Distribution) |
Location: Loughborough
Purpose:
To provide a UK energy system modelling and analysis capability in support of Strategy Managers. The focus of this particular role is an Energy Storage & Distribution Programme, which is considering the long-term impact of new demand patterns and energy generation types on the UK's energy infrastructure, along with the engineering analysis of potential technology opportunities arising from these changes.
Principal Accountabilities
To support and manage the development of analytical tools and data sets (including energy supply, demand, carbon emissions and economic factors) that will guide the development, selection and integration of Technology Programmes, and to perform studies and other analysis using these tools and data sets, that will specifically be used to inform the Energy Storage & Distribution Programme.
Specific accountabilities include:
- Evaluating the impact of emerging low carbon technologies on the UK energy system in terms of their potential scale, economics/cost evolution, performance impacts and risks. This will specifically include the engineering analysis of potential technology solutions and opportunities relating to electricity, heat and other energy infrastructure options;
- Evaluating the potential impact of different market and regulatory regimes/scenarios and incorporating them into our clients modelling tools;
- To ensure a consistent set of assumptions are maintained for system modelling and economic evaluation of low carbon technologies, in particular in respect of the UK energy system infrastructure likely to be needed to deliver 2050 energy targets;
Person Profile:
A dynamic person capable of working with belief and enthusiasm, making a significant contribution into the team. Will need to be able to carry out detailed numerical work accurately and rapidly, and to understand the practical engineering implications of their analysis.
Qualifications:
Must have a good degree (1st or strong 2:1 in a relevant engineering subject with a strong systems flavour, electrical power systems modelling and/or control systems engineering are strongly preferred)
Experience:
Candidates should have two / three years post first-degree experience of systems design, working under a recognised Design Authority, in a large and competent design group in a major consultancy or industrial group.
Exceptional candidates who have been awarded an EngD may be considered provided that the subject of their Doctorate involved the design of relevant industrial systems. Experienced at building models and programming.
