| Principal Power Engineer (software) |
Salary: £45,000 - £60,000 (dependent on experience) + benefits
Location: Manchester or Newcastle or Woking (some UK travel)
Our client is an independent, ambitious and dynamic energy consultancy with a strategy to evolve in anticipation of market drivers, whether they are technical, regulatory, economic, environmental or political.
Who we're looking for
The ideal Principal Power Engineer (PPE) candidate will be experienced and respected in their field and have practical experience of software engineering transmission, distribution or generation projects.
Significant experience of delivering analysis and business consultancy, through the project lifecycle from tender to deployment.
Experience of working on multiple projects and priorities, with different stakeholders.
Candidates with experience of senior stakeholder management up to board level
Candidates prepared to be hands on and do development when required.
Knowledge of IPSA, PSSE or DigSilent and other analysis packages and software languages such as C++, Fortran, Python or Visual Basic
Candidates with experience within a number of the following areas:
Transmission and distribution regulatory issues
Equipment specification and procurement
Contract negotiation and management
Network planning and constraint analysis
Operation and maintenance and health and safety issues
Controller and equipment modelling
Harmonic analysis and filter design
Protection and co-ordination
Control system design and analysis
EMT analysis
Power electronics and HVDC
Earthing design Duties and Responsibilities
The PPE is a hands-on and management role, responsible for the development and delivery of large software application deployment projects.
The PPE is required to engage proactively with clients to deliver new business opportunities as well as maintaining current relationships, undertaking and managing project work, writing and reviewing documents and reports and managing, supporting and guiding other team members.
The PPE must be able to communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner whilst still being capable of technical discussions at a high level.
A proportion of role is studies based, the PPE will need a good understanding of loadflow, fault and dynamic calculations. Knowledge of IPSA, PSSE or DigSilent and other analysis packages and software languages such as C++, Fortran, Python or Visual Basic would also be advantageous but practical experience would be equally valued.
The PPE will take a leading role within the team and provide mentoring and development support where required.
Skills and Experience
The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent with Chartered Engineer status or pending.
Applicants should must the following criteria:
Good general numeric and mathematical skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce high quality technical reports.
Good MS-Office skills
Project management or project software engineering experience
Commercial awareness
Experience of economic analysis and cost-benefit appraisals
Knowledge of QA systems and document management
Good knowledge of UK and International Transmission and Distribution standards and codes
