Luke Harrison

Summary
Luke has been in the IT industry since 1996. He has a broad and deep level of knowledge across enterprise ICT technologies applying knowledge and skills to deal with complex problems, extending and coordinating work that may go beyond own area of knowledge and expertise. He has demonstrated great strengths in customer facing work and has repeatedly solved customers business problems by communicating openly and appropriately with the audience, he looks at the detail and business influences in order to drive improvements. Luke is commercially aware and has a great track record in managing costs on projects and across teams. He has lead and delivered innovative solutions to problems, lead by example and managing others by planning work activities over medium and long term to support tactical and strategic activities. In his last role he significantly improved the cost base and delivery time scales of the most significant operational toolset transformation programme across Europe.
Luke has looked after the most significant internet technology transition within the BBC as Technical Design Architect, proposing, designing and delivering major projects including the TV iPlayer project which will bring BBC SD and HD digital video portfolio to Satellite and Cable TV networks.
Many of these projects focus on the deployment of superior content delivery platforms and technology for the future and developing a view on content types and the respective systems that support the media distribution methods over network.
Other project delivered or in the process of completion are E-Commissioning, Internet Access to FreeSat, Central Coding and Mux, B2B Perimeter DMZ, Correspondents Filing System, RAP/Proteus Extranet.

Product Engineer
• Produce basic summarisation and analysis on costs associated with programmes of work within the Colt managed services business for the 2009 period
• Development of migration plans, for build and test lab equipment between UK sites

Technical Design Architect

50 / 50 focus on the delivery of Infrastructure Proposals and subsequent delivery of that infrastructure to the BBC www.bbc.co.uk. The projects vary in scope and in nature but essentially focused on secure high speed ingest and delivery of media content to the world and to businesses. The role covered divers activities ranging from bid qualification, investigative work, research, analysis, working with information security, report writing, proposal writing, consultancy, implementation, detailed design work and architectural planning of projects, purchasing, vendor liaison, resource profiling, network profiling, business strategy, data centre facilities architecture, network architecture, project management, platform architecture and design work, improve standardization of serving and network platforms portfolio, improve the design and architecture planning process.

PIPEX July 2005 to July 2006
Sales Engineer
As sales engineer at PIPEX Luke had the opportunity to spend time in the field with the sales force gathering requirements, writing proposals and designs for a very wide range of business that required a range of network mediums covering radio, leased line, LES, WES, MXE and managed service platforms to the customer base.
Every managed service proposition was a unique one that focused me on engaging technology partners that would provide the edge for the customer and compliment the PIPEX portfolio of services.

STAR July 2004 to July 2005
Solutions Architect
As the first solutions architect to join the Gloucestershire business arm Luke had the opportunity to contribute and drive the first European true On-Demand infrastructure platform offering to the UK SME business pipeline. This required the delivery of the concept of utility based computing to SME space through to the subsequent delivery of that infrastructure to the client base. During his time at Star Luke had the opportunity to contribute and develop the streamlining of the business processes that supported the ability to take a meeting in the morning and have a qualified managed platforms and network services proposal available to the customer the following day.
Star changed from being a £35 million turnover company to £80 million within 9 months.

SigTerm May 2003 to November 2003 – Contract Assignment
Worked on several business development projects. Sigterm are a professional team of software functional and performance load testing engineers. The following activities applied:
• Developing there solutions selling strategy and documenting the process
• Developing responses to tenders and bids and evaluating the business requirements
• Evaluating OEM and alliance strategies to gain exposure to profiled accounts

Sonic DNA November 2003 to June 2004 – Contract Assignment
Designed and implemented the first phase of the full distribution platform for a music distribution company where Luke was the sole guiding force behind their platform strategy which was setup to be homogenous, i.e. all systems, web trade systems, accounts, CRM, catalogue system, Stock control System talk with each other and all changes are system wide.

Genuity February 2002 to Feb 2003
eBusiness Consultant EMEA
As the first eBusiness Consultant for Genuity in the UK Luke was exposed to the opportunity to consult and drive the long term managed services deals for an organisation that has it’s history in the development of Arpanet and the subsequent delivery of the first key military and educational networks such as AS1 within 6th Generation data centre facilities.

Systems Engineer
As the systems engineer Luke proposed, designed and looked after accounts between £20,000 to £120,000 MRC for a range of business such as:
Securicor (safe door)
Designed high availability environment for Securicor safe door project, assisted with the development of the Event management and change management process, designed environment to perform under load.
Financial Services Authority
Designed and delivered a secure and resilient N+1 design for FSA stats project to meet tight deadlines. Consulted on bringing in new WAN components into environment and getting load balancing to work more Effectively for FSA chosen LB solution.
Channel4
Consulted on IP address migration strategy and worked on enhancing security for additional network segments and functions to participate with the core environment services.
Arena Online
Built a new environment to facilitate global load balancing of betting transactions and streaming content
Mykindaplace
Designed infrastructure to support multiple initiatives

Migration of Storage Array systems.
