J2EE Developer

Group Technology Services - Development - Maidenhead

A vacancy has arisen for the position of J2EE Developer within the Software Development department. This department develops a wide range of systems for a major retailer. These include e-commerce websites an internal catalogue, content management systems and in-store kiosks. You will be part of a key team of J2EE developers who have the opportunity to work across the full range of our systems.

Responsible for the software development of new systems along with new functionality for existing systems, you will need to be a good communicator who is self-motivated and has to ability to grasp new concepts and technologies.

Summary of Key Tasks Required:

• Proven ability to translate functional requirements into technical specifications to build robust, scalable and supportable solutions.

• Be the key technical resource on high-profile e-commerce projects following software development best practices.

• Full development lifecycle experience from project planning and conception, through design and implementation to QA and delivery

• Participate in the delivery of complete systems or applications

Key Competencies Required for the Role:

• Good communicator – ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical colleagues, internal customers and third-party integrators

• Self motivated and dynamic – comfortable working alone or as part of a team

• Strong OO Analysis and Design experience

• Excellent J2EE/Java programming skills, particularly JSPs, EJBs and servlets.

• Experience with Rational Application Developer / Eclipse IDE

• Experience with XML, SOAP and web services

• Experience in Struts framework

• Proven record developing within a multi-tiered e-commerce architecture

• Knowledge of the full software development cycle

• Knowledge of application servers (ideally Websphere V6.x)

• Knowledge of HTML, Javascript and CSS

• Solid and demonstrable relational database knowledge (ideally DB2 / iSeries) – excellent SQL skills

• Experience of working alongside internal, external and contract development resource

• Ability to grasp new concepts and technologies

Experience:

• A very strong e-commerce development background is required, together with proven skills in J2EE, Rational Application Developer / Eclipse, Websphere v6.x, DB2, SQL, Java and front-end web technologies.

• Ideally you will have a degree in Computer Science and at least 3-5 years previous experience in Software development.
